On January 28th and 29th, two agencies charged with promoting this country’s investment and creative offerings – InvesTT and CreativeTT – joined efforts to host a stakeholder outreach initiative at Piarco International Airport. The two-day initiative targeted passengers on flights from Canada, USA, UK and Europe with a key focus on T&T diaspora visiting for Carnival. The joint agency team interacted with incoming and departing passengers in a drive to establish a point of contact with persons interested in investment opportunities and developments in the local creative industries.
“There’s an untapped business potential in Trinidad and Tobago ready to be realized by our diaspora” says President of InvesTT, Mrs. Racquel Moses.
A recent study by the World Bank indicates the Caribbean Diaspora’s willingness to invest in their country of origin, as 80% were interested in investing capital in a business back home compared to the 13% that currently do. Twenty one percent (21%) of these respondents were affiliated with Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) and more persons who had no affiliation with T&T were interested in doing business here.
Moses highlighted that through this joint initiative the agencies aim to make their presence known to nationals who reside abroad as both organizations are well poised to establish linkages with current and future T&T brand advocates amongst the diaspora.
For CreativeTT, the initiative was equally successful. “Over 170 persons expressed interest in T&T’s music, film and fashion industries. Our objective now is to use these contacts to promote our local talent and creative products in the USA, Canada, UK and throughout Europe”, stated Ms. Neysha Soodeen, Chairman of CreativeTT.
