On Saturday 27th February, 2016, the Trinidad and Tobago Fashion Company Limited (FashionTT) will host Fashion UPGRADE! Producing Quality Garments that Meet National and International Standards, an all-day workshop that will enhance the competencies of local fashion designers to produce garments that meet international standards.
The workshop, which is hosted in collaboration with the Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standards (TTBS), will be facilitated by Ms. Violet Davis-Maurice, Lecturer (part time) in Textiles and Design at the University of the West Indies and Chief Examiner for the Caribbean Examinations Council’s Textiles and Clothing program. Ms. Davis-Maurice has extensive practical and theoretical experience in Textiles, Clothing Design and Management of Apparel Production, acquired through international training programmes in India, Singapore, Malaysia, Brazil and the United States. The Fashion UPGRADE! workshop will cover several key topics including:
- The Use of Standards and Specifications in the Apparel Industry
- Criteria for the Assessment of Quality in Apparel and Sewn Products
- Requirements for the Voluntary Standard for Garment Construction and
- Meeting the Requirements of the National Compulsory Labelling Standard.
General Manager of FashionTT, Lisa-Marie Daniel explained, “Our goal at FashionTT is to stimulate and facilitate the business development and export activity of the Trinidad and Tobago fashion industry to generate national wealth. This workshop will do just that by providing local fashion designers with the necessary tools, techniques and knowledge to produce higher quality garments that are saleable to international markets.”
