Port of Spain, September 3, 2024: The Music Unit of the Trinidad and Tobago Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (formerly MusicTT) extends its heartfelt congratulations to all the winners and honourees at the 2024 Caribbean Music Awards (CMAs), which took place on August 29, 2024, at the historic Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, New York.
The Caribbean Music Awards, now in its second year, has firmly established itself as a premier event celebrating the Caribbean’s rich and diverse musical heritage. The 2024 ceremony, themed ‘Voices of The Caribbean,’ was a spectacular celebration of our region’s music and culture, showcasing the incredible talent that continues to emerge from the Caribbean.
“We are immensely proud of the accomplishments of our Trinidad and Tobago artists on the global stage,” said Melissa Jimenez, General Manager of the Music Unit. “The success of our artists at the Caribbean Music Awards underscores the strength and influence of our music within the broader Caribbean community and beyond. We are thrilled to see so many of our talented artists recognized for their contributions to the industry.”
Trinidad and Tobago’s presence was strongly felt at this year’s awards, with several artists taking home top honours:
- Video of the Year – Soca: Nailah Blackman & Skinny Fabulous
- Collaboration of the Year – Soca: Nailah Blackman & Skinny Fabulous
- Collaboration of the Year – Reggae: Shaggy & Kes
- Artist of the Year – Soca: Patrice Roberts
In addition to these award winners, two of Trinidad and Tobago’s musical icons were honoured for their outstanding contributions to Caribbean music:
- Honouree – The Mighty Sparrow: Celebrated for his enduring impact on Calypso music.
- Honouree – Chutney Awards: Ravi B, recognized for his significant influence in the Chutney-Soca genre.
The event also featured electrifying performances from a diverse lineup of Caribbean artists, further cementing the Caribbean Music Awards as a vital platform for showcasing the region’s musical excellence.
