FashionTT Co-hosts Successful Workshop on Identification and Selection of Fabrics
Port of Spain, Thursday 21st November: The Trinidad and Tobago Fashion Company Limited (FashionTT), in collaboration with the Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standards (TTBS), hosted a workshop on the Identification and Selection of Fabrics, formally launching the standard “Guide to the Selection of Fabrics” on Wednesday 20th November 2019.
The workshop hosted 60-plus designers and stakeholders in the fashion industry, educating them on the different aspects of fabric selection and quality. Ms. Nirmala Matmungal, Standards Officer at TTBS, was on hand to lecture on the Classification, Identification, Properties and Application of fabrics to the captivated audience.
General Manager of FashionTT, Ms. Lisa-Marie Daniel, stated “This new standard was highly recommended via a stakeholder consultation held at the TTBS, in conjunction with FashionTT, TTBS and UTT in April 2018. This led to the development of this standard by a steering committee comprising of fashion industry stakeholders resulting in its fruition by being gazetted and published for sale in May 2019.”
In his opening remarks, Mr. Derek Luk Pat, Executive Director, TTBS, said “I anticipate that the training received today will be instrumental in improving the quality of garments produced by local designers, and will improve the export potential of the fashion industry. TTBS looks forward to the good working relations with FashionTT and CreativeTT by extension as we work together to achieve our individual, as well as collective mandates.”
The workshop was streamed live via the FashionTT Facebook page for those unable to attend and can be viewed for anyone interested in learning more.
