Designers learn to protect their craft at FashionTT IP Workshop
Port of Spain, Friday 30th August: The Trinidad and Tobago Fashion Company Limited (FashionTT), in collaboration with the Intellectual Property Office of Trinidad and Tobago, IP lawyer, Senator Anthony Vieria and exporTT hosted an Intellectual Property Workshop on Friday 30th August 2019. The workshop was created in order to address the challenges fashion designers face in protecting their intellectual property.
Over 60 participants were exposed to various important aspects of intellectual property as it relates to the fashion industry, including key IP segments such as copyright, trademarks, industrial designs and patents. They also learned about commercial contracts and best practices related to licensing, franchising, partnering and employment and the use of IP rights to reduce risk.
General Manager of FashionTT, Ms. Lisa-Marie Daniel, stated “Making garments is only part of what goes into fashion and this workshop will ensure that designers consider all aspects of their business specifically to protecting their creativity and monetizing it whilst developing lucrative partnerships. This workshop was an invaluable one for the attending designers and received great reviews.”
